Jan. 4: PHAB 2023 Impact Report

In 2023, the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) continued its mission to advance and transform public health practice by championing performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation. Through tools and resources, our national accreditation program, implementation of the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), and other strategic initiatives. Read more.

Jan. 23: Health Affairs: "What's Next for Public Health?"

Health Affairs recently published the article, “What’s Next for Public Health?” In their new Forefront article, Michael Yudell and Joseph J. Amon of the ASU College of Health Solutions and the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University argue that, as the field of public health tries to regain its footing, those in public health must ask themselves: What’s next for our field? What are our priorities? And, perhaps most important, do those priorities meet the most pressing needs of the public? Read more.

Feb. 7: ASTHO Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Public Health Data Modernization

In the wake of COVID-19, several opportunities for improvements to national data collection have come to light — especially in race and ethnicity data. Achieving equitable representation in public health data collection is possible and needs consistent effort and advocacy. Improving collection practices, diversifying the public health informatics workforce, and increasing representation in vaccination records are ways public health leaders can begin reducing intrinsic bias. March 20: County Health Rankings & Roadmaps 2024 Data Available

April 4: 2024 Kansas Oral Health Report Card
Oral Health Kansas released the 2024 Kansas Oral Health Report Card in April. For the fourth year in a row, Kansas received a grade of C on a series of indicators. Although we are working towards making oral health better in our state, the results show that we still have work to do to make improvements. From the 2023 to the 2024 report card, there were jumps of nearly 10% of children enrolled in Medicaid ages 1-2, ages 3-5 and ages 1-20 who received a preventive dental care visit. That’s great but it indicates that less than 50% are receiving preventive dental care. Since the release of the report card four years ago, there has not been a significant change in outcomes for adults. The last dental coverage study was done in 2017 and there may be an increase of coverage for adults since Medicaid began covering dental care for adults in 2022.
