Kansas Public Health Collaborative

Foundations of
Public Health

Digital presentation

Purpose:
The “Foundations of Public Health” training program aspires to empower participants with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to excel as effective public health professionals in the dynamic landscape of Kansas. By deepening their understanding of the public health infrastructure, exploration of the foundational capabilities for public health, and cultivating meaningful professional relationships, participants will be poised to drive positive and lasting impacts on the health and well-being of the communities they serve.

What to expect:
Through a blend of immersive learning experiences, interactive discussions, real-world case studies, and expert-led sessions, participants will delve deep into the intricacies of the Kansas public health system. This is a year-long cohort training experience with expectations that participants will commit to all training sessions.

Who should attend?
Priority placement will be given to staff currently working at a local health department in Kansas. Priority will also begiven to those who have been working in their positions for less than five years, though if space allows, more experienced applicants will be accepted.

What is the time commitment?
In addition to being fully present for the training dates and times provided, participants will be asked to read or watch “homework” prior to each session. It is expected that these pre-session assignments will take, at most, one to two hours. There will also be a final project that is anticipated to take 10-15 hours total over the course of the year-long course.

How much will this cost?
Funding for this project is made available through OE22-2203 Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems Grant. This training is free – including materials, access to expert speakers, course design, and hotel costs for travel – but meals and transportation to live events will be the responsibility of the participant or their agency.
